Have been popular athletes for more than 30 and 20 years, respectively, competing in road races, trail races, ultra-trail races, cycling races, SUP races, as well as practising other sports such as rock climbing, mountain biking, skiing, volleyball… We have been practising sport as a lifestyle for a long time.

Iván has been organising sports events in different places in Spain for more than 20 years (among others: Triatlon Sierra Nevada, Triatlon Bola del Mundo, SwimStrong Navacerrada, SouthMan Xtreme Triathlon).

Maria José, a professional lawyer, had as a hobby to participate in ultra-distance races and as a volunteer in the races organised by Iván.

Based in the town of Navacerrada (Madrid), in 2015 we decided to give a twist to their lives and they moved to Marbella with the goal of both being able to dedicate themselves fully to the sport.

That’s how The Hawaiians SUP Center was born in 2015, a Paddle Surf school located in Marbella.

Our name, a joke (very typical of Iván): arriving from Madrid and having no idea of paddle surfing, we bought all the material, we took the instructor training courses and we established ourselves in Istán Lake (very Hawaiian). We knew two things for sure: Paddle surfing started in Hawaii and what our public was looking for: to practice sports in exclusive and different places… Well, if you combine it all, that’s us, The Hawaiians SUP Center.

With the years we got closer to the sea, to our loved Guadalmina Baja. First in Parque del Sol, where we also managed the paddle courts for some time and later, in our little paradise: The Hotel Guadalmina.

And since 2018 we are still here, feeling super proud to have managed to get almost all the kids (and not so kids) of Guadalmina Baja to learn this sport thanks to The Hawaiians SUP Center and to have filled this part of the Costa del Sol with Stand UP Paddle boards.

Wonderful and surprising experience, I could not imagine such a close environment and at the same time it transports you to some place in another part of the world… and what to say about the people who attend you, kind, professional, friendly, respectful, guiding you, but at the same time pending of any incident,, not all of us have the same experience, I observed at the same time, with what delicacy and tact they attended each one; of course I will repeat and I strongly recommend them… it is a very pleasant experience…

My partner and I visited to rent two paddleboards for an hour. It was reasonably priced and located on a beautiful beach. The hotel next door was closed at the time for refurbishment, so it was not busy at all. There were no toilets and you had to use a hose to take a shower, but this didn’t bother us. The owner was incredibly friendly and we would be happy to visit again.

We rented 5 boards for an hour and had great fun paddling in the warm water. Very friendly/supportive owner and good quality kit. Nice bar just down the beach for a well deserved beer.
